kintsugi: word meaning: golden seams

Kintsugi is an ancient Japanese process used for ceramic restoration. It is a technique where tree-sap is used to bond the broken pieces of a vessel to make it whole again. At the end of this creative process, the bond dries, and the seams are not hidden to make the vessel appear as it did before broken. Instead, the seams are highlighted beautifully in gold, highlighting that the vessel had shattered and has been mended in gold.

When God mends us together, He does not make us as we once were, although the old can be seen in part. He makes us into a new creation, from what once was, where our brokenness reveals His beautiful golden glory in our lives. A broken vessel that stands mended is a message of hope to those who feel as if their lives are shattered in pieces.

FOUNDER, ANNA FRIENDT

In 2016 Anna founded Anchor 13 Studio and began use the creative arts as a way to combat human trafficking. In 2019 Anchor 13 Studio became a 501c3 organization. From April of 2022 through February of 2023, Anchor went through many changes and has been refined and remade. And so in Summer of 2023 we rebranded from Anchor 13 Studio to now being REMADE, and remains a 501(c)(3) charity organization.

Anna has a heart for those who are vulnerable, marginalized, and exploited, and as an artist and creative, is determined to use her gifts as a way to make a lasting difference in the lives of others, inspiring others to do the same.
